When I started my business Beechnut Tree Service back in 2005, I didn't know what was going to happen I had previously worked for the Urban forestry division for the City of Clearwater, fl. So I was familiar with the industry and had also received my Certified Arborist certification. As I started my business I was surprised by the amount of work involved not just removing or just trimming the tree's but what goes on behind the scenes. Now 12 years later it is evolving again into a full service landscape and tree service company.
Beechnut Tree service can handle most tree jobs although there are jobs that are just to big for our company. If so then we will hire subcontractors to help us out or just refer the job to some of our friends in the industry that have the equipment and man power to get the job done correctly and safely. Also the cost of the equipment to purchase and maintain I expensive but must be done in order to maintain the equipment over a long period of time . Training is also a big part of this industry . The tree climbers of yesterday and the climbers of today are vastly different. In their approach and in the equipment they use. It is a evolving industry and you need to keep updated on new techniques and new diseases and disorders of the industry.
Beechnut Tree Service is now in its 13th year of existence and we are still doing tree work just like we did back then but our equipment has changed and our level of expertise has also changed. Back then we just had a pickup truck and ladder in the beginning , now we have Bucket truck, Stump grinder , and prentice loader. for larger jobs. our equipment has also changed in order to keep up with the times and advancements in tree climbing techniques. We now offer lots of free stuff like free estimates, free tree hazard evaluations, free gutter cleaning on all jobs over roofs, and the list goes on and on. Their are a lot of businesses that claim to have a Certified arborist on their jobsites but very few actually do . And I've actually called a few of these company's and confronted them about there claims and I just get the phone hung up on me. So that's another thing to look out for. Or if you plan on starting your business , never promise more then you can deliver.
Along with tree work , you should also do various other jobs like landscaping, landscape architecture, Fertilization, Stump grinding, Tree planting, Hedge trimming, Tree consulting, All of these will help your business grow and the more you can do the better off your business will become . Beechnut tree service tries to give the best service possible and as promptly as possible , Do not take your customers for granted because it will come back to you if you treat them with respect and honesty. If you do that then pretty soon you will get a good reputation like Beechnut has and your business will expand with out even having to do any advertising . We have a five star rating on Google and Angies list and that is saying something about our commitment to do fair and honest work in the community.
Another thing to think about is advertising . It is a big part of any tree business because it helps you reach customers that you would not ordinarily reach. I started out advertising in the local area newsletter and would go around driving and placing business cards where I saw that people needed tree work. It was surprisingly successful and I got quite a lot of business that way . Then came the internet and as people started using that then I got a lot more business from that also. There is a way to attract customers to and that is by doing a good job for people and treating them with honesty and respect. That is the best way to attract them by word of mouth.
In closing I would just like to say that this occupation is not for everyone , but if you don't mind working outdoors . Sometimes in the scorching heat , or the bitter cold then the tree care business can bring you a lot of joy and fulfillment and can be very profitable. It all depends on how much you want it and are you willing to work for it?
Thank you and good luck and I hope that I have been some help to all thinking about entering this great business called Tree Service . It can be very rewarding , not only monetarily but it can be good for the soul.
