It is very important not to prune palm trees very hard, meaning you don't want to overprune them. You must leave a good amount of green frons for the tree to be healthy. You cannot cut them into Candlesticks. You must never use the awful practice of Hurricane cutting your palms it is a very bad pruning practice that should be avoided at all costs.
Your palms should only be pruned when there is dead or dying fronds, or to remove seed pods you should try to leave as many green fronds as possible. Now sometimes you have to make exceptions to this rule but only to clear something or to raise above streets, sidewalks, or driveways.
If you do this one practice of only removing the dying or necessary frons from your palms your trees will have a long and happy life. Remember that palms also love fertilizer. If you can get a prescribed palm fertilizer that would be the best but if you can't. simple milorganite is better than none at all.
